VIRUS???

Double clicking My Computer locks pc up momentarily then just goes back to desktop without opening My Computer. Internet Explorer acts the same way when opened. Ran Norton, Adaware, and the newest Spybot.....i made sure i had the newest definitions installed on all. Rebooted into safe mode and everything worked fine. I ran the above 3 utilities in safe mode and found nothing. Do you think this may be a virus of some kind??? Or a hijacker of some kind?? Any help would be much appreciated. Gateway laptop...Windows XP home edition...256mb ram....2.8ghz.
