My computer seems to have a variation of the gibe virus, but I'm not certain which one. The files symantec claims are associated with this virus dont seem to be around. There is still an email spawning in my inbox constantly and I am getting returned mail all the time. THe files usually say updatexxx.exe or installxxx.exe. This is the beginning of the email.

this is the latest version of security update, the "October 2003, Cumulative Patch" update which eliminates all known security vulnerabilities affecting MS Internet Explorer, MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express as well as three newly discovered vulnerabilities. Install now to help protect your computer from these vulnerabilities, the most serious of which could allow an malicious user to run executable on your computer. This update includes the functionality of all previously released patches.

Most likely you don't have the virus (that's the SWEN virus, btw), but someone you probably know does. It collects addresses out of their address book and sends itself out to you. And are those returned emails actually returns from what you sent? This virus actually spoofs those, as well.

As long as you haven't run the attached file, you're likely clean.

If you'll open the mail and look at its properties, you'll probably be able to tell which of your friends is "sending" you these neat little *updates* .

If you need any more help on this, feel free to pm me... I've be able to help several out who've encountered this little bug.
