Virus? Trend No, Panda yes!

I bought my wife a Soyo KT600 Dragon Plus mobo to upgrade her system and installed WinXp. After the XP install, from a CD that came with the mobo, I installed ?ImageIt? and ?Panda Anti Virus?. The Panda software allowed ?scanning while installing?, which I selected. It found a virus called ?Natas? in the ImageIt folder. No big deal, as I simply reformatted and reinstalled windows. After, I did the Trend on-line virus scan of the system I had it scan the CD with the ImageIt software. Trend found nothing! I again install the Panda software. It once more found the virus. According to the Trend site, Natas is a variant of the Satan Bug virus.

I E-mailed Soyo about 2 months ago, but got no reply. I?m interested to know if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I'm beginning to think you are doing all these topics intentional instead of having some sort of other problem will 15 topic post here.

Which is it?

with two different subject headings? this is no longer incompetence. I'll repeat my earlier (heeded) call - MODS!!!

Sorry, each time I tried to submit post, I got "cannot display page" error. I was not aware the thread got submitted.

My guess here is that there is no virus; if Trend is not finding it, you're probably OK. However, have Trend scan the ImageIt folder AFTER you've installed it to be sure.

Careful of those multiple posts 😉

Personally, I have been using Panda A/V Platinum and I think it great. I have never had a problem with Panda, and I highly recommend it. More than likely, the Soyo CD is clean and virus free and there is nothing to worry about.

Sometimes AV software gives false positives. When you ran Panda, were you using the latest pattern file? The pattern for Natas might have been updated due to a false-positive problem. . Try running a third AV software as a crosscheck. Computer Associates AV is available for free right now.
. I've used Trend AV (as it comes as a part of VCom SystemSuite) for several years without incident not caused by the water sack between the kbd and chair (failure to update sig file frequently).
