Virus Scan takes 4-5 hours...

Right after I installed Antivir, it did a scan and took ~40 mins to complete...

Now anytime I do a scan it takes 4-5 hours. I have not done anything new to the computer other then putting a few pictures in my pictures folder.

It says it's "unpaking the file" alot, other then that it looks normal just slow. Has this happened to anyone else? Can anyone help fix it or tell me it's normal?

Thanks.

I have not delved all that deeply into my avira, but you have extensive control of how deeply you scan. As I recall there is the normal Luke Skywalker Scan and another deeper one that took at least at least 10 hours for me to run. You need to read the help files and perhaps uncheck a few options to get faster scans. Avira also has a forum you can check
out. But if you have a lot of compressed files on your computer that have not changed recently, you are wasting time asking avira to check these files that have not changed all over again.

Most of the protection of an active antivirus lies in detecting the virus the milli second it enters your computer and then killing it before it installs. After the fact passive scans are
far less effective.
