A friend brought over a computer for me to look at and i'm trying to help him
out.

It appears that he got infected with Downloader.Trojan and the file infected
is R2g2s.dll and it's in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

I've started in safemode and scanned but norton's couldn't "clean" it
and you can't delete the file either in safemode or regular mode.

I checked my home computer and I don't have the file
on my system.

Is there anyway I can delete the file? And another question is the file
anything that the computer really needs?

I did a google search for the file name but didn't come up with any thing at all.

Thanks,
Jim

Did you disable System Restore? What version of Norton (what year) is this, and what date are the definitions? Do you have Heuristics maxed out, and compressed-file scanning and scanning of ALL file types enabled?

I had it fully updated when I did the scan. Probably the reason he got infected is because
he hasn't updated since June UNTIL he got infected and then it was TOOOOO LATE!

I did some looking around and here is a neat program
that I just used to delete the .dll file that would not be
deleted in windows (said it was write protected or in use).

It's call Dr. Delete and it's a small file that you execute and browse to
the file you want to delete and once you have it set to delete you restart
your computer and "poof" the file is gone.

I got rid of the virus infected file (found out it wasn't needed any way) and
did another scan with Norton's and it's clean with no signs of any problems.
