I get this message after I let my pc sit idle for atleast 30 mins.
AVG antivirus detects a virus "Trojan Horse StartPage.DU" and it says it is in the System Volume Information\restore folder on the C: drive.
It then says to run AVG to remove it.
I run AVG but it doesnt find anything. I go to the actual folder it says its in, and I cant access the folder. It says Access Denied. So I figure I need to be the administrator to get in. I log in as admin and the folder doesnt exist. I double checked and hidden folders/files were being displayed. I log back in as myself and check the folder properties. It says the folder is empty.

I don't want to have to do a system restore because I just did a bunch of Windows and Driver updates. ( or wouldnt they be affected?)

Any idea whats goin on??

-Thanks

The Restore Folder is not accessible to anything like a virus checker because the operating system protects it from being altered by anything but itself. Therefor, the only way to get a virus out of there is to turn it off (Windows Key + Pause/Break key in XP) and then turn it off once the virus has been removed. The down side of this is that you lose all your previous restore points . . . the up side is that your bug can replicate itself from within this folder, and this will stop it.
