OK, my friend says she thinks she just got the Blaster Worm on her computer. She has two little kids who open attachments randomly. :( Anyway, I don't think it's the Blaster Worm because it doesn't come up with the NT User/Admin restart message upon boot. However she says her computer is really slow and whenever she tries to do a scan with Norton AntiVirus 2002 (fully updated) the computer restarts. She says every time she opens her email it sends 50 new emails to people in her address book, she can see this in her Sent Folder. She is using Outlook Express.

Thank you!

The only thing I an think of is that old bad doctor joke.

Doctor! Doctor! Help, it hurts when I do this!

Well then don't do that!

Sorry, sounds like it's time for a reinstall anyways. Next time show her how to keep her OS up to date.

Reboot to safe mode w/ networking, update NAV, then scan the pc. You can also pull the HDD out and scan on a clean machine.

1. She has slow dial-up. Not easy to keep up-to-date.
2. I told her to run the online based Panda AntiVirus scan since it doesn't look like a normal AV program.

That sucks, but it takes much less time to keep it up to date then it takes to repair it.

Hope you can fix it though, if it's blaster there are several apps aviable from anti-virus websites that can be used to clean it out.

Maybe you can be nice and download the updates for her in the future and burn them to a cd. :)
