Alright, I have a virus on my computer. Last few days IE had been locking up intermittenly (not sure if that was related) and this morning all of the sudden I got a stop screen (windows 2000 pro). On restart it goes into windows and NAV finds w32.bloodhound.unknown something like that. anyway from what i gather that means NAV didn't know what it was, (although I last updated me defs on friday). anyway it couldnt quarantine any of the 200 or so instances of the virus infected a wide range of system files. after another restart I cant even get into windows, i log in then get a virus detection then the login screen again, endless loop.
well i backed up my OS partition 3 weeks ago. so I ghosted it back over. SAME THING! this has to be a boot sector virus or something right? could it have infected my hard disks as well? i dont know how these things work...
reason i am wondering if other HDs are infected is because I have an excel file (like 15mb) of a EE project I have been working on for weeks on another HD.
if it is 'boot sector' or whatever, how should I go about making sure it is gone.
i ran "fdisk /mbr" and then tried reghosting,,, same thing! cant login to windows, endless loop of logins with a NAV in the background about the virus being found in "IMM32.DLL"
this is starting to suck.....
Also tried to repair the windows 2000 install, that results in a stop screen saying something about changed hardware or something....
