As if trying to get the slow down problems wasn't enough, I now have ANOTHER problem..

Norton Antivirus loads up and magically I have a virus! This is my first virus EVER guys so help me out step by step please... I run the latest Norton AV 2004, I have MS AntiSpyware and I immunized with Search and Destroy.... but still I haven't downloaded anything I haven't checked in a while.

So I load up and Norton tells me I have a virus. Okay, I hit fix it. It can't fix it. Can't quarantine it, Can't delete it. I turned off Sys Restore, Booted into Safe Mode, then rescanned... still nothing.

The virus is called a Download.Trojan type.. and it is COUNTER.EXE within C:\COUNTER.CAB

Can I just manually delete that file? What do I do? Thanks

Delete Counter.exe, remove from recycle bin, or shift+ delete it. Delete any shortcuts it made (optional).

Thanks, I booted into safe mode and deleted that... I looked it up on google but some people said deleting it caused more problems. But, I just did it and it seemed to work fine for now... cleared all my temp internet files..

I think the problem was that my mom used IE instead of Firefox.. IE always gets me spyware and such and probably this too. Oh well, she knows to use firefox now, she's so good, hehe.

You should also probably run a good, updated virus checker to make sure it's all gone. If you don't have one, I've found that Trend Micro has a good one that runs completely online (i.e. you don't have to download/install a client). Here's the site: http://housecall.trendmicro.co...usecall/start_corp.asp

Good Luck!

EDIT: I don't trust Norton and so I don't count it as a good virus checker.
