Virus from a MP3? How

I thought you couldn't get viruses from Mp3's. My friend just got a virus from one and her parents are now scared like heck and are buying a hardware firewall, not letting her use icq or msn anymore either. . Sucks

You don't get a virus from an mp3 but apparently there was a worm called win32.scrambler that would create a file called scooter.mp3. In addition to targeting email and irc it would also attack any real mp3s it found, wiping out their content. Symantec claims it has no aliases but f-secure claims that one of the aliases was mp3.

I don't know why they're getting a firewall, most likely to protect her from hackers...she's never been hacked before, but why spend the money on a hardware firewall when they can just use software like ZA.
They also have a virus scanner, not updated though.
