virtualized gaming (xen)

Just curious if anyone knows how far virtualization has come in respects to PC gaming. I'm thinking about building a new box, but I want it to run a multitude of servers most of the time and a win7 gaming host sometimes. just curious if Xen/VMware platforms allow for this...

what kind of performance hit can be expected?

fwiw, thinking about going dual hex-core xeons, gobs of ram and a top of the line video card...

don't think i've seen any dual socket workstation boards with SLI/Crossifre...

Parallels and I think VMWare (desktop) have put some effort into connecting VMs to the GPU, you might read reviews of their latest versions to see what's theoretically possible.

Xen might still lack that though.

I use VMWare at work and the latest version (v7) supports Win7 and some GPU capabilities. You should also look into Microsoft Hyper-V.

AFAIK xen doesn't do a good job of using a video card.

Look at ESXi/VMWare....you'll still not get dedicated gpu like you traditionally would.
