The story is set aboard the Phaeton, Earth's first starship, on a ten-year journey to explore a distant planetary system. In order to help the crew endure the long mission, a system of virtual reality modules is installed aboard the starship. These modules allow the crew to assume various identities and enjoy a variety of adventures, until a flaw is discovered in the system.

Here's the cast:

Hmmm. Sienna Guillory who was the cop in Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Clea DuVall who played a lesbian, in well, just about everything.

edit:
Shows june 26

Here's the youtube trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpQ0GRGlFF8

Apparently its sort of like a reality tv show.

Interesting premise. Sounds like it will be a bit like BSG meets Armageddon.
I liked Sienna in RE:A. Clea DuVall is good actress, too. Haven't really heard of any of the others, though I probably have seen a couple of them in minor roles in other shows and movies.

Hard to tell if it will be good by just the trailer, but it looks promising.

From my other post:
From what I've heard Fox has already cancelled seven of their new shows that premiere in the fall.
The idea is to pre-emptively cancel any show that might actually be good, to avoid the unpleasantness of any future TSCC's.

What worries me is that I haven't seen one promo for it on Fox. In fact, it was only by accident I found out about it. Seems they would have promoted it if it was any good.
I can understand them showing it on a Friday night as that was what Fox was using for their Dollhouse and TSCC, but Fridays are a very low viewer night, and its usually where shows go to die.
Not promising for a two hour movie that needs a good showing to turn into a series.
But seeing as how have been in a scifi slump for awhile, and this weekend is actually the very beginning of a new round of scifi shows, maybe it will be worthwhile.

lol, the trailer makes it sound like big brother in space, going to follow the 12 men and women in a confined spaceship for 10 years.

Yeah. In the story I linked Ron Moore said he never like reality tv until he saw the Deadliest Catch and that's when he decided to do the show like this.

Don't forget the melodrama! It's 10 years going in a straight line, so you won't have to worry about pesky things like visiting planets, space battles, or other cool things. Instead it's going to be lousy BSG drama every minute of every episode.:D

But the fate of the world depends on them!

Do they decide to go on a 10 year mission or turn round

I think it's the VR element that would add the action, in addition to the decisions they must make and problems that arise as members of a (relatively modern day) spaceship. There's definitely going to be soap opera style drama, though, but hopefully there will be at least as much action as the BSG miniseries. A sci-fi fan can take only so much drama :p

Hmm, maybe it's just me, but a series that is essentially about a Holodeck sounds like a terrible idea. I'm also wondering how they are getting to Epsilon Eridani in 10 years. It's 10.5 light-years away, and even if the ship can achieve .99c, you need significant extra time for acceleration at each end - plus the fact that time passed on Earth would be substantially longer due to relativistic effects.

Oh, I hope not. SciFi shows that start off with completely unscientific rationale invariably suck.

I watched it for a half an hour or so and got bored with it. (Made it past the group meeting with the Doc)

Downloaded the ArmA2 demo and played that instead.

You called it.
In the plot the earth only has 100 years left to support life. And if they are going to another star at almost the speed of light they would come back to a dead earth according to time dilation.

The other thing that bothered me was the nuclear propulsion. The way it worked was they ejected almost 200 nukes out the back, one at time, and the nukes went off pushing the reinforced rear of the spaceship. That can't work, can it? Wouldn't the acceleration from each nuke have to have been many, many gee forces? Plus, since there is no air in space, what would have pushed agains the rear? The vaporized remains of the nuke shell?

It looks like bad science.

Actually that's real. NASA once drew up the plans for such a ship with Project Orion.

yea thats pretty much it.

too much vr and i just couldn't care.

they didn't sell the orion concept either. you need a massive thick shield...battle ship like is what an orion craft would be like since weight would not be the issue.

rather weak, i'd be surprised if it got a series.

it got half the viewers of sarah conner chronicles grr

Well, Friday night and no promo's pretty much always spell death.
Then when you make an only mildly interesting show, and it costs a lot, you might as well move it straight to dvd.
