VirtualDub Error

I try to open a video file, and it says

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DIVX' (OpenDIVX)

BirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to deompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

Tried searching the web for vfw codec. Installed a couple, but still the same error. Which codec is best??? thx.

edit: btw, when I try to watch the movie, I can only hear audio. No video seen. (Windows media player, and sasami2k).

VFW refers to the OLD standar for codecs (video for windoes). WDM refers to the new standard for codec (windows driver model).

MOST of the codecs are compatible to both standars (Divx, hufyuv, mjpeg, etc). A few are compatible only with WDM (also refered as directshow. DV is the one that comes to my mind).

You need to download DivX 5.02, go to www.divx.com and get it..... It should solve the problem.
