VirtualBox, run out of disk space

Is there a way to expand the virtual disk to a new bigger size?

The other option I have is to reinstall creating a new disk.

Short answer probably. When you created the Virtual Hard drive what options did you use (VDI or other, fixed size)? Also what is you host and what is the Guest?

Host is Windows 7 Home Premium and guest is Windows Vista Home Basic.

The disk is a vdi image disk, dynamic allocated space.

I am seeing no options to expand the disk in the settings, maybe I am missing something. 25GB was not enough for the installation plus updates. I want to double that. I can create another disk but I have to reinstall again.

I have tried using the "VBoxManage modifyhd" command but it is not recognised by the command prompt. Maybe it is a linux command.

Also tried to copy the virtual disk, which works but copies only 25GB without options to expand.

Thanks, that seems to be the correct path.

A bit late though, I have just erased the disk. It will prove to be useful in the future.

With dynamically allocated disks (which you already said you were using), you might as well make the disks excessively big to start with, as they will only use up what is ACTUALLY used (ignoring slight inefficiencies, and overheads).
