Virtualbox menus don't work

I just installed VirtualBox on a clean install of Mint 18, and menus don't work. When I click on File or Virtual Machine, nothing happens, it highlights but the menu does not come down. How do I get this to work? I have options to create a new VM, but I need to import an existing VM which requires use of those menus.

Forgot to mention I'm running Mint 18 Cinnamon.

Bah yet another glitch in Linux and multi monitor, it looks like I need to move the window to a non primary monitor, then the menu works, but it extends ridiculously long so I still can't access anything. Why can't OS makers figure out multi monitor and make it work properly, windows suffers from this kind of crap too, though the glitches in Linux tend to be more weird and app specific.

Fighting with Oracle's sign on crap for the virtualbox forum and gave up. Keeps saying my password is invalid even though I literally copy and pasted it.
