I'm trying to use VirtualBox 6.1 on a 16" Macbook Pro running macOS 10.15.6, and it crashes when I try to run the Ubuntu 20 Live DVD installer on it. I tried different controller settings for the VM, and ended up with the same result every time.
I also tried getting VMware ESXi 7 running under it, but it I couldn't get it to recognize any of the network cards that VirtualBox offers. Seems like a known issue on that one, though. If you want to play with VMware ESXi 7, you're better off running it on bare metal. I finally got an operating system to work with VirtualBox (Windows Server 2019) on my third try.
The installer also gave me a bunch of security errors about "unsigned" drivers from Oracle when I first attempted to install it, but I think that I have those issues resolved now.
I remember this software working better on older versions of macOS 10, so I'm kind of disappointed. Is it just me, or has the quality of this software gone downhill? It's almost bad enough to get me to pony up for a paid version of VMware Fusion... almost
