I have used Virtual PC on the Mac before and didn't really care for it. My boss got me v4.2 for Windows today and I love it!!!! This is going to be the way for me to learn Linux. Instead of having to set up networking, I use my "host" machine to do NAT for the "guest" machines. Or you can set up networking within a guest machine and run a server, firewall, or whatever.

The software is pretty reasonable at $200. It is cheaper than buying a new computer and beats the headaches of dual booting.

I need to run Win2000 Server here at the office, but this gives me the ability to run XP, Mandrake, Red Hat, and OS10 all on this machine. The people that make it say that it won't run as a "host" on 2k Server, but I am having no problem.

Has anyone else used this? Got any tips?

the only way i found that i learned linux is by making it the only OS on a machine. then i was forced to use it. actually for $250 you can get a 1.1 Ghz machine from dell shipped. check the deals forums or deals pages and im sure youll see the deal floating around.

id like to see some screenshots of you running OS X if you can get ahold of a copy and install it.

I agree that that is the best way to learn, but at home I have a USB ADSL modem. The only way anyone ever showed me to make it work with Linux is to hack the kernel. This is not an operation for a newbie, so I said screw it.

With Virtual PC, I am online and have full functionality without learning to compile a kernel from day one.

We are looking at 2 different ways to run OS10. One is with a hacked version of Yellow Dog Linux. The other is FreeBSD with Aqua, et al installed on top of it.
