No it's not true. Except you are allocating hdd space which not usable for other programs nor by the PF since it is too big. Too big doesn't hurt but too small will depending on your programs and size of rams. If you ran Task Manager and click on performance you should have an idea how much PF space to allocate. Give it a head room of about 25% and you should be good to go.

Actually if you have 1GB RAM or more (and don't use any programs/games that use large amounts of RAM), you can set pagefile min/max to the same size as RAM i.e. 1GB RAM=1024MB pagefile (also called static pagefile).

Setting up a dynamic pagefile such as min=384MB max=1024MB as well as letting Windows manage your pagefile is slower than using a static pagefile.

I have 2GB of RAM in my system and I set my min/max at 2048MB.

A good rule of thumb is to set your page file to 1.5 times the amount of RAM you have if you have 1gb or more. So if you have 1gb, then a 1.5gb page file should do nicely. If you have 2gb, then a 3072mb page file would be your friend.
