"Virtual Memory" What are the best settings?

What would be the best settings for my system under "Virtual Memory." I have read that letting "Windows" handle is the best from some people and that setting up a "Swap" file is best from others. Can someone tell me what would be the best settings for my system when I use it mostly for 3d gaming."

I wouldn't. IMHO windows mis-manages memory in the 9x kernal. What OS are you running?

The general rule is 1.5x to 3x your ram amout. It just depends on the kind of programs you run and your OS.

When I boot up win 98me I have my VM set to 200mb, but I have more ram. If you notice that you are running out of memory, you can set it higher. Basically once your ram is filled up the os will allocate that amount of space on your hd for programs to use. Most cases you can even get away with having your VM set to about 200~300mb. Try setting it to about 250 and see if you need more, if so, set it higher.

Hope this helps

I usually set a min like 100MB-300MB and then set no max (leave it as the largest possible) just for hoots.

I set mine at 200meg and I had 192 meg of memory up til about two months ago with no problems. I don't use a lot of programs at once though. One other thing to do is use a third party disk defragger like Norton it will move the virtual mem to the outer tracks of the disk for the greatest benifit.
