I don't really know if this question belongs in here, but it seems like the most logical place to put it. Please move if it's not in the right forum.

Is there a service available (pay or free) where I can essentially have a "virtual machine" somewhere (preferably Windows interface) where I can upload/download to? I want to be able to store files at a location that I can get to from anywhere, and will allow me to install apps to enable file transfers. (i.e. FTP clients or P2P client that I can use to DL or UL for retrieval at a later time).

Does such a thing exist? I know the description is kinda vague, but I'm occasionally away from home and I want to be able to get access to my files, and do some downloading, etc when I'm not at home and doesn't require my PC to be on...

I think I found what I'm looking for - virtual private servers...looking into it, but if someone's got another suggestion, I'm all ears.

Wasn't exactly what I wanted - I already have something like this with MediaMax. I ended up going with a Virtual Private Server with 1&1. It's $29/month with 500GB transfer per month and 10GB of space. Good enough for me and serves the purpose I wanted.
