I have Windows 7 Ultimate and I plan to run linux virtually, probably ubunto, does anyone have any links or helpful information on how to properly set up my second operation system?
VMware Player or VirtualBox are good choices. Hell... VMware probably has an Ubuntu 12.04 virtual appliance prebuilt and ready to use in their collection.
The latest versions of VirtualBox as well as VMware's desktop virtualization products should have full support for Ubuntu 12.04. Installing Ubuntu in a VM is easy: install the OS, and then install the drivers for the virtual machine (your VM product should have a procedure for this).
There's nothing unique you need to do to Ubuntu in a virtual machine, but I tend to disable the screensaver and any power saving settings since those are handled by the host.
There is no such thing as "VMware Virtualbox", VMware is a company and VirtualBox is a product now owned by Oracle. VMware has several desktop products such as Workstation and Player.
