Virtual Dub Help with splitting improperly VBR audio encoded avi file

When I open a divx avi movie with virtual dub, I get the message
VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewirte the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to xxxxxxxx ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate: xxx.x +/- xx.x kbps)
Now, for one, I dont know any of the abreviations like VBR or CBR. And could someone elaborate whats going on plz?

When I tried to clip it the normal way, I got a tremendously skewed audio stream. Then I tried File>Save WAV and saved the wav to a file. Then I Made a copy of the movie without the audio. Then I opened the audioless movie in VD, and integrated the audio. But still the audio was out of sync. I need to fit this movie onto a cd, but it is too large. Need to clip it. Any pointers from anyone plz? Thanks.

CBR = Constant Bit Rate

VBR = Variable Bit Rate

VDUB only supports CBR. Like it tells you, you'd have to decompress to a PCM stream, then reencode the audio to CBR MP3. A simpler way would be to use Nandub, which you can get at doom9.org. It supports VBR...

Well, I tried nandub, but it inevitably crashes on my computer. I am going to reformat my hd sometime and reinstall, but i will lose all info.

How? I tried using VD to save wav, but that doesn't work. What software do I use, or can I use VD itself? If so, how?

Open your video in VDUB, under Video choose Direct Stream Copy, and under audio choose Full Processing Mode. The File menu, and Save As AVI. (the file will be big, video is the same, but audio is now WAV)

Now open your new video, do your editing (cutting, whatever...). When you're done, again under Video choose Direct Stream Copy, and under Audio choose Full Processing Mode. Go into Audio again, and select Compression. In the window that opens, choose your MP3 codec, and select your bitrate.

Then File-->Save As AVI to finish.

OK, I did the first part and got a video with not much of an audio sync. Now I try the second step, and when I save as avi, I get the %completion to be 0% for about half hour before I ended the application. I dont know whats wrong. I selected Divx Audio and selected 128kbps and 44khz which is 16KB/s. Now I am going to try MPEG layer 3. Lets see... Well, Ill keep u posted spicedaddy.

Ok, that was good. Now, the audio is slightly out of sync. Is there any software to adjust that possibly? Thanks for ur help so far Spicedaddy.

PS: What is VDUB? VirtualDub and what is UB?

VDUB=Virtual DUB :p

Go to the doom9.org downloads page, there's a program called Synchronizer.
