virtual directory in vista?

is it possible to make a folder that contains the contents of other specified folders?

i have a media library spread around several computers. i want to have all those media stuck into one folder at top level access, rather than just having a folder containing shortcuts.

is this doable? i know it is in windows 7, but i'm using vista on my main machine.

Two possibilities:

1.) Create a folder then make a bunch of hard links within that folder.

2.) Saved Search folder.

Edit:
Whoops! (1) won't give you top-level access. 🙁 Andl, yes, the Saved Search might suck but I think it's going to be the best option.

/sadface.

i've disabled indexing in vista (got sick of it) and i think that would cause saved searches to run again and again every time i open it.

is there any programs that emulate a virtual directory, you can feed directory paths to it via command line and it gives you a virtual directory of the contents?
