Virtual Device Driver format in registry is invalid

This is the complete text of the error:

C:\LIGHTNER.EXE
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I did some searching. Apparently its because of something that NIS2007 did to the registry which wasn't switched back after I removed it (it was pre installed on my laptop).
There is some guide for fixing this, but it isn't for vista. I tried going through with it anyway but I can't find the location in my registry. I go as far as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
there isn't any file named VirtualDeviceDriver. I don't know how to create it (if it is even possible).

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, I usually remove NIS2007 via the add remove programs feature in the control panel. and I have never had this problem. this time I removed it using the norton removal tool (since it was taking forever to uninstall the normal way).
