virtual cd problem

Hi guys

I recently bought a software package, Virtual CD v4.3, which is to avoid having to put a CD in the drive when playing a game or whatever.
I have the game (RT3) on my c drive but have to put CD2 in the d drive to play the game. I cannot understand how I force the game to look at the copied disc(CD2) inserted in the virtual drive b) that I have created. The manual is in my opinion very vague on what you need to do (or I'm particularly thick!!!). Something about a variable %vcddrive% is mentioned but what do I do with it? I am using windows XP Home if this is relevant.

Any help would be appreciated.

I guess that it is looking at your physical drive because that was the drive the game was originally installed from. I suggestion uninstalling the game and reinstalling it again from the virtual cd images.

It varies depending on the game, but alot of games store the drive letter that performs the check in the registry. You could do a search of the registry and manually change the drive letter to match that of the virtual drive if the game stores that information in the registry.

However, I wouldn't recommend it if you are not comfortable tinkering with registry keys.

Hence why I recommended reinstalling the game...the slowest solution usually ends up being the quickest and easiest.

Hi Mitzi

Have done as you suggested by uninstalling RT3, creating a virtual CD of the installation disc(CD1), reinstalling the game to the c: drive using the virtual disc in the virtual drive but it has made no difference. The game still runs as normal if I keep the play disc (CD2) in the normal CD drive (D)!

Any other suggestions (anyone) ?

Then it sounds like the game has copy protection on the disc which your virtual CD application cannot emulate hence why it needs the original disc and will not run off the CD image.

The only solution I am aware of is to download a NO-CD crack for the game which will remove the check for the original disc and allow you to play without no CD in the drive whatsoever.
