Virology 421/521 Midterm in an hour!

Oh man, I remember my virology class. He made us memorize everything about the families of viruses. We had to memorize the length of their genomes in base pairs, the approximate location of the different genes relative to each other, the actual size of the virion, etc. Of course, other things like (-)RNA or (+)RNA, double-stranded or single-stranded DNA genomes had to be memorized as well. That wasn't so bad.

But man, it definitely seemed like a waste to memorize all that info. I can't remember much of it now. I never understood why certain profs wanted us to memorize reference books. That's WHY they make reference books. They should be testing our understanding of concepts. I really liked learning about how viruses infect hosts, how they replicate, and how they spread. Interesting subject.
