I have an amd 900 that I want to take to the GIG mark. I was wondering how I would unlock the chip. I heard about the pencil trick and was wondering if thats the way to go or if there is a better way. The chip is week 30 and it is green. I have a msi k7t pro2a mobo and have no idea how to change the jumpers or whatever you change in the bios. Can anyone throw some clues or hints to this newbie. Thanks.

I also want to overclock a K6-2 500 to 550 or 600 but it is very unstable. What should I set the mobo voltage to?

Here is a good place to start. You will need to close those L1 bridges. I recommend something better than pencil (Loctite Defogger Grid Repair, or Conductive paint), but many here have reported stable operation for months with pencil. If you use the Loctite stuff, which is available at the auto parts store for about $8, the benifit is not having to redo the bridges periodocally. You need decent cooling, but since your already running at 900 you should have this covered. MSI boards use jumperless settings, so you do this in the BIOS. After closing the bridges, use the Bios settings to increase either the multiplier (above 9.0), or the FSB (above 100mhz). I usually take the multiplier to the highest setting that posts, then up the bus until it freezes up-then back off a notch. Good luck.

with the k6-2 500 just move it up a bit at a time while making sure the temps stay resonable. my old k63-400 is running at 450 in a freinds rig with the votalge up from 2.4v to 2.8v and temps about 46c with a retail 750 t-bird hsf. about 15% over stock votages is a good max, and keep the temps below 50c.

So there is no set value, its trial by error....Thanks all, I will try it.
