Samsung finally upgraded the Intercept (Virgin Mobile) to Android 2.2x a few weeks back and ever since my battery life has been absolute shit. On top of this, once I kill open applications with Advanced Task Killer, many will often re-open (gmail, google maps, facebook, etc.). I have no doubt this is partially why my battery life has dropped.

Can anyone explain this and a potential solution?

Man, my battery life went up considerably on my intercept with 2.2.2. I don't know whats going on.

Have you tried juice defender ?

2.2 has more advanced power management, much better than 2.1

I'm thinking I don't need Juice defender any more, it saves may be 25% with 2.2.

Before with 2.1 it was saving 100% plus.

I would think a task killer might be more helpful with a lower-end, RAM-limited phone like the Intercept. But try without one for a couple days and see. Otherwise, consider rooting and undervolting.

Using an interecpt on 2.2 here, i can say that it hasn't been my personal experience that android will manage memory well enough to keep things smooth. Phone can randomly get slugish, kill all the crap(amazon mp3, maps, gmail, where, sprint nav, sprint nascar, sprint zone, etc.) and everything is smooth again. Battery life isn't horrible for me, 12 hours normal use for me would be include maybe 4 calls, 30 minutes of surfing, and sending 20 texts. That will put me at about a 50% charge.

before all this rooting and task killer stuff, have you tried going into menu>settings>accounts and sync>and click off auto sync?? this will prevent gmail and facebook from coming back up. not sure about google maps, i reboot my phone and it still comes up no matter what.

btw: when you turn this off, and take off background data, and lose your gps tracking, i can play my phone all day full blast video games and music. i have a lot of apps, but its about what your allowing them to do. some apps have memory leaks too, so that could be.

Hello newb! Welcome!

You dont need to do all that. Just get the power bar widget and you can kill anything with one tap.

ATK should show up as malware for anyone running 2.2 or newer, it kills performance, battery life and can create stability issues. Noone should be running ATK with Froyo or newer builds.
