Viper II and CPU usage

I noticed that both S3 and Diamond drivers for the Viper II uses about 5% cpu overhead even when nothing is being done. Is this same for others with this card? When using standard VGA driver or another card with its driver, the CPU usage when everything is static is ~0%.
