I played nine years on a regular basis, and the last four sporadically. Practice is just the key. Do lots of scales to nail your fingering and position shifting down. Play in front of a mirror to make sure that you're maintaining your bow perpendicular to the strings until it's natural. Don't stare at your fingers - play using your ears, not your eyes.

I've never used an electric, but it'd probably be fun.

yeah, i have a bad habbit of looking at my fingers when i play to try and hit the notes right, that and i like my tunner, lets me know how close i am to hitting the notes...i'll have to do that more i guess, maybe play without looking at my hands but use the tuner to let me know if i'm sharp or flat.

if i get an electric i'll let you know how it is, i've seen them on ebay for a few hundred, i was thinkin' of getting a cheap one or something even though i need a better violin, the one i have now is a hand me down that was not very well taken care of.

Practice Practice Practice.

When you learn to shift positions, it can be very tough at first. Shift slowly and repeat repeat repeat so that your arm gets the feel of how much to adjust itself for each position.

While you may think all the technique is in your left hand, the right hand (bow hand) has a lot of difficult techniques to master. These are more advanced and the best way to learn any instrument so that you can be proud of results is to take private lessons with a teacher.

The progress you have made in 2 years will be doubled within 2 weeks if you were to find a good teacher and you are willing to practice about an hour every day at least.
