Vinyl dye on glossy surfaces?

I've used Black Vinyl Dye before with good results on matte surfaces...how would it turn out on glossy plastic surfaces?

I would recommend scuffing the surface first with something like a 3M Scotch brite pad. Use the Grey color. And also clean the surface with wax and silicon remover such as "Prep-Sol". This will promote adhesion and lessen the chance of the vinyl dye peeling.

There is also a product that can be sprayed on first. It is a clear adhesion promoter. I forget what its called, but you spray it on before the vinyl dye.

Scrub it good with Ajax, Comet, or Soft Scrub cleanser. Not only will it dull the surface, it will remove any oils and silicones that prevent adequate adhesion. Rinse. Repeat. Rinse thoroughly. Dry. Dye. 🙂

Do glossy surfaces still come out glossy after applying dye? Again I've only used it on matte surfaces. If not, would a few coats of clearcoat do the trick?
