Makes you wonder how much different the future will be from how we imagine it.

Am I missing something about the above picture, or don't we have something similar, called, I don't know, a video camera and some speakers?

Wow that's actually accurate considering it was a prediction for 100 years into the future. The specifics weren't correct but the general idea was.

I love 1880-1900 stuff. I started with this link and ended up with the Beach Pnuematic project. Good reading.

That's a pretty spot-on depiction of a home theater. (Minus the audio part)

Not bad for a 100 year prediction.

It's amazing how many predictions are right in that article! She must have really talked to some people that knew what they were talking about.

what? you are saying SHE could not have thought about it on HER own?

;)
No..
These prophecies will seem strange, almost impossible. Yet they have come from the most learned and conservative minds in America. To the wisest and most careful men in our greatest institutions of science and learning I have gone, asking each in his turn to forecast for me what, in his opinion, will have been wrought in his own field of investigation before the dawn of 2001 - a century from now. These opinions I have carefully transcribed.
:p

Edit: Although, looking closer.. Since the article was in a magazine called "The Ladies Home Journal", I figured it was a female that wrote the article. This appears to be incorrect, however, as the author's name is John. ;) LOL

Lights were a new thing back then. They may not have understood the effects of ambient light back then. Or maybe they envisioned a 10,000 ANSI Lumen projector... we'll never know. :p

Judging from the stream of light coming from that cone, I'd call it a light canon that happens to also project images ;)

At the same time, on the right side of her dress the darkest part is just about as dark as the wall so looks like they might have a pretty decent contrast ratio going.

I can only assume that color reproduction and increased resolution (especially in the facial region) would be enhanced once ambient light in the parlor was reduced :D

Very interesting site. Just sucked up almost an hour of my time.

Some of it couldn't be more wrong though, especially the part about how everyone will be a tri-athlete.

Is that for real? Great predictions by this guy if it is. It's so close to the mark that it raises my fakery flag.

yeah, there were some really good prediction there, also some bad ones, but ALOT better than most I have read. I mean they get alot of details wrong like having all the airplanes just be ships with balloons tied to them and such, but the general concept is right (IE: fast travel through the air to distant countries). Or operas being transmitted across the world, thats pretty good (not operas we listen to now though, but Britney Spears et al :p), but anyways, its still amazingly accurate.

They didn't think about or conceive the concept of the internet. The author was referring to parcel delivery.
