Vintage memory: non-EDO = 30-pin SIMM?

Hi,
I'm upgrading memory for someone's old HP system, a Pentium 120. It uses dual 8MB sticks (non-EDO) which are hidden behind a riser card--so I couldn't take a good look at them.

Should I be looking for dual 30-pin SIMMs or 72-pin ones?
Thanks!

Since its a HP p120, its probably based on socket 7, so you should be looking for a pair of 72's

30's were used in 386, 486, and socket 5 586's

If there in pairs their 72 Pin Simms... the 30 Pins came in sets of 4...

You might be unpleasantly surprised at how much those 72-pin FPM SIMMs cost these days. Hopefully you have a drawer full of them from your old systems. Or know someone that does.

What do you need exactly, I have away 30 sticks last time and have some 8mb and 4mbs left which aren't great. If you know what you need, I'll try to check a few pairs to make sure it's working and send them to you for 3.50 (shipping)

I have some FPM SIMMs I'd let go for next to nothing. They're system pulls, and I don't have much use for them. PM me if you're interested.

Not important, just a correction to a statement made above:

30 pin simm's only need to be installed in pairs, not 4's; same as 72 pins

You just had to spoil my blissful ignorance, eh CalebTG? :frown: And I thought those quadruple 30-pinners were the coolest PC retired history item since 8 1/4" floppies and 10-lb hard drives!

Most older mobos that use Fast page ram can also be used with any EDO ram

I thought the main difference was FPram is 70ns ... and EDO is 60ns ... but there may be more i guess ....

I've installed EDO in 2 systems that originally had FPram with no difficulty (a p100 upgraded to k6 233 and a p-pro 150 which was then upgraded to 200)...

10 pound hard drives were reitred ??? i should remove mine then ??? they do take up 2 cdrom slots ... and they make my case weigh in around 75 pounds ... but they are cool looking and they are very very very hot.. since it is the wintertime ... it is good because its dual purpose like a space heater.
