Vines that grow along walls?

The wall in my backyard sucks. Here's the story, the house across from ours put a wall up before we moved in, but didn't clean the extra cement out between teh bricks. Anyway, today my mom decided I'd go out with a hammer and chip off all the cement. Anyway, I convinced her to instead go out and buy some climbing vines to cover up the walls. The best thing I can think of are those vines that grow along the walls on freeways? You guys know what I'm talking about? Does anyone know what those are called?

Get some Virginia creeper vines. They'll grow on any wall, even smooth cement.
They look nicer up close than the ones you see along the highway.

Legally it's THEIR wall. If they want to, they can tear it all down. Considering the damage ivy does to mortar, I would get their permission.

get some Boston Ivy, but put it on a trellis.....ya know...that piece of pressbaord that has the diamond shapes in it..:)...that way it doesn't wreck the mortar..

Just don't use kudzo.

<< The vines grow as much as a foot per day during summer months, climbing trees, power poles, and anything else they contact. Under ideal conditions kudzu vines can grow sixty feet each year. >>

<Edit> It might also be a good idea to run this idea by the neighbors first.

We're not tearing it down. Heck, if we did, we'd be sharing a backyard with them. I'd be chipping off the extra cement that oozes out between teh bricks. But, i'm lazy and I'd rather go out and buy vines instead.

Ahh.... No, we have a gardner that'll be trimming the ivy off the top of the walls. It'll be staying on our side of the wall.

Not really their wall. If I got the story right, then they tore down the original wall, and put up the new one. Half on our property, half on theirs.

That's different if it is on both properties. Just make sure or you could start a feud.
