The story:

I live in rural idaho. Part of the world around me involves that irrigation of, just about everything. Because my home is surrounded on either side by farm land, we use our farm irrigation system to water the lawn as well as the farm (Couple of extra sprinkler heads, not a big issue).

Well, I went on a trip, and my nephews earned the great task of watering the farm and the lawn. I parked my car well out of the way (or so I thought.). To make a long story short, apparently they decided to water the dirt around my car... for reasons unknown. Needless to say, I came back to a car with a visible layer of hard water stains, it was bad enough that you couldn't see through the windows.

Stupidly, the first move I made was to try soapy water with a very tiny amount of vinegar in it. No luck. I thought this would be a permanent part of the car (though, I did get the windows cleaned enough to see through them.) After driving around a couple of weeks with horrible stains all over my car, with no relief in sight. I finally decided to try a more concentrated vinegar solution (2:1 water to vinegar). The results where nothing short of amazing. The stuff quickly dissolved all hard water in minutes! I can't express how pleased I was with the results. Vinegar, and then a quick rinse down. And now my car looks like it never went through that horrible mess!

So lets hear it for the Vinegar + Calcium Bicarbonate reaction!

Vinegar is good for cleaning windows too. Also, it neutralizes epoxy residue so it's not toxic (so I read). Vinegar can be used as a non toxic herbicide. Vinegar on your food increases your feeling of satiation, so you eat less.

But don't ever mix it with bleach or the reaction will release deadly chlorine gas.

^ Such a chemistry Nazi...Chlorine gas is fun... what could possibly go wrong? The worst thing that could happen is that it would react with the mucosa in your lungs and you drop dead that's all, try it at home, you won't regret it...well you won't live to regret it 😛

Seriously now people, don't go trying to make chlorine gas at home... just in case someone's sarcasm meter isn't working 😱

Technically it won't make you drop dead...it'll just make you wish you could drop dead.

Yup.

Acute exposure to high (but non-lethal) concentrations of Chlorine can result in pulmonary edema, or fluid in the lungs, an extremely unpleasant condition, especially for children and the elderly.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlorine#Health_effects

Chlorine is detectable in concentrations of as low as 0.2 ppm. Coughing and vomiting may occur at 30 ppm and lung damage at 60 ppm. About 1000 ppm can be fatal after a few deep breaths of the gas.[4] Breathing lower concentrations can aggravate the respiratory system, and exposure to the gas can irritate the eyes.[49] The toxicity of chlorine comes from its oxidizing power. When chlorine is inhaled at concentrations above 30 ppm it begins to react with water and cells which change it into hydrochloric acid (HCl) and hypochlorous acid (HClO).

🙁
