Kobe = First Kobe, maybe better than Jordan.

How about that?

Kobe is better at 22 than Jordan was at 22. No doubt.

Neither will be as good as Jordan. However, I don't really know which is better now.

is it just me or does kobe seem to do things just to get noticed as opposed to Vince Carter who just seems to do things that gets him noticed....

Perhaps the best way to sum it up is that they are both better than you or I will ever be. Probably the best litmus test would be to poll GMs around the league about which they would like on their roster.

But really, comparisons like this are stoopid. Watch them and enjoy.

Craig

Umm...comparing Kobe to Jordan...is a HUUGE no no.

Jordan made the game what it is today, whether you like it or not. Kobe will ALWAYS be the one who might be the next Jordan. Jordan is the benchmark...everyone else tries to define themselves to be as great as Jordan.

Also...what lone player can change the pace of the game as well as Jordan? Don't you even say Kobe!

Who else am I going to compare him to? His playing style is similar, his moves are similar, his skill level is similar, he plays in the same offense, and has the same coach that Jordan did for the best part of his career. there is no doubt that Mike is the man Kobe is patterning his game after.

On a pure skill and talent basis, Kobe is on Jordan's level. He's far more advanced than Jordan was at this point in his career. He's a better defensive player than Jordan was at this point in his career. Right now, Kobe probably the most skilled player playing in the NBA He has improved leaps and bounds with every season he has played, and he's only 22!! He's no where near his peak as a ball player. Kobe at 27-28 years old will be amazing. Will Kobe accomplish the same things that Jordan did to get to that point of greatness? I don't know. Maybe, maybe not (I sure hope so :) ) All I'm saying is that he has all the tools and the right mentality to go as high as he wants.

Vince may "apppear" to be as good as kobe, but that's because the rest of the team sucks. He's the only one that's worth a damn on the team.

Kobe is only seems to be better because he has a supporting cast surrounding him. If Vince had a solid second scorer behind him, he wouldn't be double or tripled team. In tonights game versus the Paces, in maybe 2 or 3 plays, all 5 Pacers attacked Carter. Vince wasn't fazed by the attack, he just passed the ball to the open teammate (which was the rest of the team) for the easy 2 points. Vince is just improving at a far greater rate than Kobe. Kobe wouldn't be the player he is if he wasn't on the Lakers and with Shaq. Put him on a sub 500 team, and watch Kobe he would be just another average player. Carter is stuck taking the entire team on his shoulders. If Vince had a solid man beside him (if only McGreedy didn't leave) there would be no comparison between Vince and Kobe.

PLEASE!! That's pure playa hate. You might not like Kobe, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the kid is way above the "just another average player" level regardless of the team he is on. On a sub-500 team Kobe would be doing what he's doing right now, leading the league in scoring. Only difference is he would be averaging around 33 points per (his shooting % would probably be lower).

Vince is super talented too, I just don't think he is as skilled as Kobe. He's no where near the defender Kobe is, he's not as good of a passer as Kobe, and I don't think he is as smooth a scorer around the basket. Here's a stat for you, Kobe is a shooting guard and ranks FOURTH(!!!!) in the league in points in the paint. That is an astounding stat for a backcourt player, due in large part to his ability to creatively finish around the basket.

Regardless of this arguement both are excellent players who are going to rival each other a lot for plenty of years. I would like to see Vince work on his defense, because that is one area where Kobe has him hands down. Until then, Vince is 'Nique II.

this arguement AGAIN??

anyway...kobe is the man. on court and off the court.

he does charity events for underpriveledged kids (i know because i've worked w/him)

VC doesn't do anything off court.

'nuff said.

Vince does quite a bit of charity work in the Toronto area. It's just not as publicised.

Buwahahahah! What are you, 11? Because you seem much too young to know about Jordan. ;) Kobe is unimpressive to say the least. Jordan is by far the greatest player of all time, if you think that Kobe is even 3/4 the player Jordan was, then you are quite mistaken! Jordan never had a center that was better than mediocre to draw a double team- in fact, the only player who could really warrant a double team to play on the Bulls was Scottie Pippen. Jordan is a better defensive player too, you kidding me? He was a leading steals guy and also didn't do too shabby in the blocks department for a shooting guard! Jordan had far more tools at his disposal. Kobe is either drive or shoot when he finds and opening. Jordan had the midrange shot (including that deadly turn around, fade away jumper that he perfected), the ability to drive with easy and electrify the crowds, and he also had an outside shot.

Now, many people say that Jordan was a ball hog, however, he averaged about 4.5 assists/game over his career, pretty freakin' good for an off guard!

Vince is by far a better player, he dazzles and excels on a crappy team which is far more difficult than playing well on a team that is so stacked that they should be undefeated this year (which they are not, they are 3rd in their division behind Sacramento and Portland). The fact of the matter is that LA got too many attention hogs that don't enjoy passing the ball and moving without the ball.

FYI, Carter does do charity work, it's just that he does it in Toronto which is not exactly an area that you will hear a great deal about in papers in the USA. I live about 4-5 hrs. south of the US-Canada border.

You gotta think...Phil Jackson contributed a lot to Kobe's developement. Where would he be without Phil?

Besides, Kobe is a better defensive player. You can't just look at it from stats, like steals and block shots, but look how he plays defense.
