I really want a Transformer, or even the Iconia I've been messing with, but this seems very tempting for the price and specs. Once rooted, I hear it opens up greatly. Really thinking about jumping on it, only real complaint I see is the screen.

Which is a surprising complaint considering Viewsonic's roots are with displays.

I'm thinking about getting this.

With the CyanogenMod, will that take this up to 2.3?

the screen is truly horrible. I haven't played with a viewsonic tablet that has an acceptable screen. At this price, the NC is much better or going up to the transformer/galaxy tab 10 will give you a much better experience

Screen is important because it's what you're interacting with. You get what you pay for here.

$250 AT&T Tab deal was active as of last night. Havent checked today. I would definitely get the Tab over this without question.

I picked up an Iconia a500 2 days ago at costco and its a bit heavier than my 1st gen ipad. It's performance is much better and multitasks well. GPS is nice, but you have to encode video JUST right or it will be choppy. Major downside, locked bootloater so no roms. I would love CM7 on this.

Which is a surprising complaint considering Viewsonic's roots are with displays.

At some point in the last 3 or so years they really lost their quality roots. Bought a 23" LCD thinking that Viewsonic should be pretty solid. Not only did it have a display issue that was indicative of a poorly assembled circuit board but after doing some research, that should have been done first if I hadn't had some faith in the brand, I discover it's a pretty common issue with their displays now. Luckily their RMA process was fine but also slow.

Very important with tablets to get a good sampling of display reviews, seem very hit and miss regardless of brand.

I returned one a couple of months ago because of the screen, it really is that bad! Ended up paying more for an Acer Iconia.

I tried one of these out at Staples when they first launched, in that week before they pulled them off the shelves due to overall crappiness. I don't know what was worse, the screen or the awful UI they slapped over Android. If you can get Honeycomb installed on this, it might not be bad, but I'm honestly going to wait until the first gen Honeycomb tablets come down in price a bit.

It wasn't a bad tablet. I just sold mine. Endless romming possibilities out there. The HC rom isn't primetime yet, but does work.

As for the screen... It isn't great, but far from completely unusable.

Guy came into BB and bought the Iconia, talked with him a bit, told me he wasn't a big screen guy, but actually played with the GTab and the screen was horrible. Decided to just wait for Iconia or Transformer.
