I have been reading that the Viewsonic VX924 4ms display will be available on 4/23/05; I found this info on a couple vendor's website and called another vendor and he said they would be in the warehouse on the 23rd.

I've read from others that the Hyundai L90D+ 8ms is a really good bet.

Should I wait for the Viewsonic and is the extra $70 worth it? Would I notice a difference in gaming????

As always, thanks guys!!

Is the 4ms LCD panel an actual 8bit color display. Sometimes the lower response time LCD's are only 6bit and have some kind of graytone scheme that technically allows them to claim 16 million colors. I am not sure exactly and I am sure another person here can explain it far better. I would, however, research the model I was interested in and made sure it had full color pallete as well as the other features like response time.

I'm not sure about the 8bit color in them. I did compare the specs and it appears that the L90D+ has a better brigthness and contrast ratio than the Viewsonic.

I'd also be curious to know whether the 4ms difference in response time would improve gaming performance.

As I have read/experienced ghosting does not occur on most panels 16ms and below. But a visible motion blur is still very evident. I played on my friends 20.l" viewsonic 16ms panel the other day and I could instantly see the motion blur when I sat down right in front of the panel and jumped around in q3.

So does motion blur still occur on 8ms panels? primarily the L90D+? I'm not sure I still need to find a retailer that carries it and is willing to let me jump around in a game or two. If the L90D+ does indeed still have some motion blur I would definitely say the VX924 would be worth looking at.

I would say the extra $40-$50 IS worth it because of a few reasons. You are getting a faster panel from a more reputable company. The panels may be manufactured by the same company (LG/Phillips whatever), but the electronics inside do make a difference. To me Viewsonic is the cream of the monitor crop so I would go with them.

I would still like to see a review by Tom's Hardware on the VX924 before making my decision though. I hope some reviews will be out soon comparing it to the L90D+

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

There's always a shortage of good LCD reviews, so much relies on the perception of the user.
