What kind of panel is the Viewsonic VX2025wm?

i remember back when it came out it was one of the best monitors for gaming for $350.

whats the best monitor i can get for gaming (80%) and watching an occasional movie (20%) for around the same price?

I can't remember exactly, I knew when I first bought mine. It isn't TN, I know that much, and gaming with it is good enough for me. Good colors, good response time, minimal backlight bleeding, easy to read, etc etc. I don't know how it stacks up to S-IPS panels or newer monitors but I like it.

yea thats what im' thinking... i doubt theres any quality difference between this and the newer 24in monitors, i guess any $$ spent on upgrading would be only for the screen size.

I actually own the viewsonic. I believe its a S-PVA, which is one step down from S-IPS. I havent been keeping up with monitors lately, but usually 24" LCD's are of better quality than 22" by far. But some 24" LCD's could be TN's as well. So I would just check on that.

Usually TN's are super fast response times with small viewing angles. If a monitor has these specs usually its a TN.

It's a P-MVA panel. S-PVA are Samsung's VA panels. For less than $300, there's the Soyo 24" (MVA) and also there's the Westinghouse 24" (MVA). If you look around, you might be able to find some other better 24" monitors using VA type panels for less than $400.
