This is a bit like the following post, where the OP fixed a puzzling 2025 issue by fully powering down his computer. (I decided to post separately because I couldn't even find that post using AT search, and only found it using Google, and that post was in General Hardware.)

I had a baffling problem of my own with the same monitor and a similar video card (6800 GT OC). It had worked fine for about a month, with one computer on DVI and other two connected via a KVM on the analogue. I'd recently powered down the computer on DVI to install some hardware, and during that process blue-screened at one point. Thereafter the DVI wouldn't work. Analogue was fine.
I checked the drive, re-installed the drivers, powered fully down and up, etc., etc. No real luck. (Powering off seemed to help in the detection during starting up, but this wouldn't last all the way into Windows graphical mode.)
I connected the DVI to a second computer, and it worked fine. (Didn't re-boot that computer.)
I tried a different LCD on DVI, and this worked a little better -- when this monitor was connected, the computer would always detect the DVI connection properly. I could also use this monitor to "trick" the Viewsonic into functioning -- boot with the second monitor, and then switch to the Viewsonic. However, the other monitor is 1280x1024 max, and I couldn't get 1680x1050 working on the Viewsonic with this trick.
I even installed Viewsonic driver, re-installed NVidia drivers yet again, wiped and re-installed, booted when connected, disconnected, VGA disconnected, monitor cables switched, etc.. None of these solved the problem.
Then I decided to try semi-random button sequences, to get into any hidden config menu on the Viewsonic.
I got in! Now what was the button sequence?
The hidden menu doesn't give a lot of options/info:
WOVX-A V1.02 AUO NVT
Auto Level PASS FAIL
Gain RGB
Offset RGB
Select Color Temp
Color RGB
Burnin Off (this displays a full-screen color sequence)
SSC 4 (wazzat? won't touch until I know better)
Factory Reset
Color Reset
Auto Level didn't do it.
Factory Reset FIXED IT!
Desperation is the mother of invention!
Proof of the infinite monkey theorem!
Here's how you get into the factory mode:
Power down
Hold 2
Power up
Now wait a sec... the power button goes to amber -- this is the hidden mode, and the screen comes up
Now press 1 for the usual options, and you'll see an "F" added at the bottom
Arrow down to the "F", and press select (2), and you'll get into the menu with the items I listed above
Use the normal arrows / 1 / 2 to navigate
Monitor powers down on Factory Reset
Exits factory mode on power down/up.
Normal caveats about messing around with factory mode / stuff you don't understand / need applies.
