AL Tax-free holiday reference sheet (PDF)

It would appear from the .pdf that you are correct.

However, I purchased this monitor today using an Alabama address and was charged exactly $299.99. I hope they don't come back and try and add the tax later because they (many stores, not just CC) are advertising all kinds of PC related items as being tax free.

I'd really like to buy this monitor, but I'm stuck in the "old school" with 3 very nice 19" CRTs and I can't bring myself to buy a new monitor when there's nothing wrong with my current monitors.

I had the same thoughts. I have tow perfectly good CRT's. but the difference maker for me is that this one is widescreen, and I really want to try widescreen gaming.

If you're on the fence wrt CRTs, here's a helpful thought - LCDs use about 1/3 the power of CRTs, and are easier on the eyes. (at least IMHO)

Yeah - this seems to be the case. Guess I should've just tried to get one in store this weekend instead of buying it on Newegg - would've saved $30 :p

Yea, apparently they reduced the savings by $10 today. Since you have to pay tax now and Newegg is currently offering free shipping, Neweg would be a better deal right now (assuming Newegg doesn't charge you tax).

You shouldn't be banging your head against them 85 times a second.... ;)

My Hitachi, at 85 Hz was fine, as long as I was at least 18" back from it. The dual Dell 17's I had required a maximum of 1280X1024 @ 85 Hz, with at least 18" between me and them. A 21" Hitachi at 1024X768 @ 85 Hz hurt, but I couldn't get further away from it. I think that was the problem.

Got a nice tan though. :)

All 4 LCDs have not exhibited these eye strain issues.
