Hello everyone,

I am researching LCD monitors and was looking for some practical input on the refresh rate effect on gaming in the below two LCDs as well as suggestions of comprable LCDs.

I am narrowing my list of LCD to purchase and Find the ViewSonic 8ms stunningly perfect in terms of picture quality. Spec: DVI/1000:1 Contrast 19" gaming LCD.

ViewSonic VP930b

SAMSUNG 940t-Black
The Samsung has a similar model but 20ms refresh
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001069

I noticed the Viewsonic has 8ms gray-to-gray (avg); 20ms black-white-black
does this compare to Samsungs 20ms ???

Is the 1000:1 contrast what makes this Viewsonic so awesome?
Also wanted a min 1280/1024 native resolution.

Any help would be appreciated. I would not go over 400 on this purchase as I have a DLP for movies and xbox.

Thanks in advance for any input on this matter.

I have the Samsung 940T and it looks AMAZING. Definitely the best LCD I've ever seen. I know a 20ms response time sounds slow (these days) but IMO it looks fine. I would highly recommend this LCD.

Acer have very good gaming monitors, I have one with a low reponse time and I game on it 24/7 haven't noticed a problem yet.

The ViewSonic VP930b would be faster (the 940t lacks any response time speed-up chip). Both are high-contrast displays but if you're gaming I'd definitely go for the VP930b over the 940t.

Seriously, with monitors, go to the store and look at them before you buy based on online reviews.

Thanks Jeffrey.

A friend just purchased the ViewSonic VP930b and I really like the monitor. THG has written articles about how 12ms response is all you need for gaming, however I have also read reviews that a little higher was ok as well. Was interested in anyones opinion or experience with response times and when its too slow.

I doubt they will let me load up WoW in Best Buy.

Have you tried any games yet? Have you ever experienced ghosting?

I've played a bit of AOE 3 on it and it looks fine. Then again I've never really been bothered by "ghosting" in most games (not counting really old LCD's). I've also watched a few DVD's on it and they looked fine too. One really neat thing about this LCD is the "MagicBright" feature which makes the color even more vivid (too vivid in some cases). Personally I think the great picture quality is more important than the response time (but that's just me).
