Viewsonic VP930 vs. Dell 1908FP?

I'm currently looking at these two monitors and am not sure which to get. I can't find any reviews at all on the 1908. I'll mainly be looking at text (web pages, excel, word, etc.) but I'll also be doing some gaming and movie watching as well. Before anyone says to get a widescreen monitor, I'm not going to be upgrading my video card (7900GT) anytime soon, and I'm more partial to FPS than image quality in games, so a lower native resolution is preferable.

I'm looking at these 2 panels as well. I read in a review from PCWorld that the VP930 is very good. I have a Dell 1905fp right now, and while text couldn't be clearer, it ghosts a ton when watching movies or playing games. I really want a new 19" LCD, but I just cannot decide.

Personally, if I'd probably just go on price alone between those two. They are both good monitors -- just look for deals.

If you mean Viewsonic VP930b, this one has an AU Optronics P-MVA (AUO M190EG01 V0) panel. The Dell has a TN panel.

No contest: The VP930b will have much better viewing angles, true 8-bit color and a more-solid looking picture.

This is what I was thinking too, but will there be motion blur for sure? On Newegg, the majority of reviewers said they saw no ghosting at all in games, but the small amount of people that did say they saw ghosting kinda worries me.

The VP930b will have either a 6-bit+FRC (older rev) or 8-bit (newer rev) P-MVA panel with wider viewing angles and higher contrast. Basically reiterating what has already been said. I agree that it's a much better choice than the Dell.

The VP930b employs strong RTC (overdrive) and will probably end up faster than the Dell which to my knowledge does not use RTC, at least not very aggressively. Ghosting will happen on every LCD, it's the extent that matters.

Wow, your post furthur ensures my theory that numbers mean virturally nothing with LCDs.

With all that said, give me a quick recommendation: What is the best 19" (non ws) LCD out there for a price lower than $400? Say, 50% gaming and 50% web browsing/coding. I don't like glossy screens and I hate LCDs where you must look straight at it because the viewing angles are so horrible. I know you are probably going to say the Viewsonic VP930, but let me know what you think.

EDIT: a little backlight bleeding there or uneven black level there doesn't bother me a bit.

The VP930b easily suits your purposes best. The next best thing would be the Samsung 971P. I wouldn't consider the Dell over the VP930b for any purpose. Backlight bleeding shouldn't be too bad on the newer VP930bs (and wasn't that bad on the old ones anyway).
