I know a lot of people have been asking for a good LCD, and I myself am in the quest for a good 19" LCD for my new computer.
I know the 930B has been a good deal for some time now, and a lot of people have jumped on seeing the fat 930B forum in the forums here.
I'm on my 2nd 930B now, and I just got a VP191b from ZZF. I have my 930B plugged into my old comp w/ ATI AIW Radeon on DVI and my VP191b on analog on my laptop. I have tried swapping w/ the 930b on laptop and Viewsonic on DVI desktop as well.
I have them side by side and I have to say this:
Samsung 930B:
This panel is way to bright. Coming from a 17" CRT, this thing is just blinding. I turned brightness down to 40 or so and it's still friggn bright. In fact, my eyes hurt from looking at this panel for too long (surfing net, reading forums). I have to turn away from it and back to my laptop screen after just a bit.
The colors are washed out a bit compared to my CRT (which I didn't bother to calibrate much either). After some calibration, things looked better, but blues and reds are just way too bright. I watched Family Guy and Stewie's red overalls seem to be crazily bright. I then tried my Aqua background (OSX bg) and I it made the blue seem not as cool and more like bright. I also watched LOTR, and I have to say LCDs suck at showing dark things. You can't see the shades of black clearly, and a lot is just a black haze. This was also a problem when playing CS and walking into the dark places in de_dust2. Gamma was all the way up in CS too.
Ghosting? No ghosting at all. I played CS so nicely on this LCD it was like w0w. Too bad the dark areas sucked. Otherwise, gameplay looked really awesome.
Viewsonic VP191b:
I plugged this thing in and it was orgasmic. It was bright, but nowhere near the brightness of the Samsung panel. I turned it down a bit, and the colors still looked soothing.
The green in the start menu is much darker yet saturated and the blues in my taskbar are nice. Colors do not come out really crayolish like in the 930B and I would have to say they are more real. My photos look much better and there are no washed out colors.
LCDs suck at displaying dark places, but LOTR looked 10x better on this panel. I noticed that some spots aren't that great, but at least its significantly better as a panel for movie watching.
I have not played CS on my laptop yet because my laptop's half dead (half of the HD is corrupted), but I tried on my desktop (although not at a constant framerate at 800x600 =((( ). Ghosting is there only if you look for it. This panel definitely is slower than the Samsung one. I did not try dark spots yet. I may try to fix my laptop so somehow I can test some stuff on this panel. Otherwise, I think the panel is still fast enough for me.
Bottom line?
I'll be returning the 930B and keeping the VP191b. I bought the 930B from Fry's. No dead pixels. The VP191b didn't have dead pixels either even though I gambled and bought it online. I think I gambled right and the luck was there, so I think this new monitor will be DAMN sexy.
