The first version of this monitor (VP171S = silver..... VP171B = black) has the older 6-bit display.... the 2nd edition (VP171S-2 or VP171B-2) has the new 8-bit display.
How can you tell the difference?
The pictures of the 2nd version on newegg.com just say "VP171B" on the back... it doesn't say "-2" anywhere on it! Also, the ones at retail stores also say "VP171B" and don't say on the boxes, OR the display, which specific version it is!!
Is there a way to tell them apart using any minor details, or the UPC code, or the part number? I don't want to buy it from the retail store I work at (which, with my employee discount, is MUCH cheaper than Newegg) and then end up with the crappy 6-bit display!
Thanks.
