Viewsonic VP171b questions/concerns

When twisting the monitor 90 degress, the refresh rate seems to slow down considerably. Pages appear to load much slower. Often you will see the page load slowly from top to bottom...

Has anyone had this problem and/or know of a way to fix it? It makes the monitor almost unusable in this position.


Also, Ive noticed that texts that are bold are often splotchy and non-uniform, for the lack of better terms. The bold letters are usually solid in color in the center, but on the extremeties the color is partially faded and partially solid. Its most noticeable with blacks and blues, and the bold has to be a fairly large size for it to be noticed. I hate to link this site, but it shwos a perfect example of the poor quality text: http://www.tomshardware.com/. Any similar complaints? Methods of correction?

1. My VP171b has a slow refresh at 90° also, it's worse with the ATI utility and better with the included Pivot software but ultimately I think it's a monitor problem.
2. As for the text and colors I don't have those problems, are you running at 1280x1024 with 32-Bit color? LCDs are very picky about resolution... Also, what video card are you using and what drivers are you running them with?

Thats too bad on the verticle viewing option.

I have a 9800np and was using the Omega drivers. Thinking that might have been the problem, I just uninstalled them and installed the newest Catalyst drivers. Unfortunately, bold text is still entirely unimpressive. Ive got my resolution set at 1280x1024 and am on 32bit color along with 96 dpi. Using the "smaller" font option in IE.

Have you tried enabling ClearType? Mine doesn't need it but maybe your system could benefit...

Yea I have it on. And basically what I've noticed is the larger the font, the worse the text suffers around its edges. Bleh. Thanks for the tips anyway.
