Viewsonic VP171 without DVI?

I have an OLD GF2 pro, and I couldn't resist jumping on the Viewsonic VP171 from Dell for $426 shipped. My question is, my video card doesn't have DVI support. Is there any problems with just using Analog on this particular monitor?

If there is a problem, what's a cheap solution to get DVI support? Note, I am looking to upgrade my video card to something beefy once Halflife2 and Doom3 is out, but that won't be for a few months.

There shouldn't be any trouble using VGA. The ViewSonic website lists both VGA and DVI compatibility for that monitor.

yea i know it has both ports. But I just remember reading at the usual tech sites that with VGA, the text and stuff just doesn't look as clean. But I don't know if it applies to my particular model. Just wanted to see if others can give me some opinions on the matter.

get like a radeon 9000 or 7500 for cheap end stuff. or even the geforce FX 5200 if u wanna spend a little more. all come with DVI ports. All the current all in wonder cards from ATI, except the VE, come with only a DVI port.

Wait to upgrade your video card. You shouldn't notice that much of a difference.

just got my 17" lcd. All i can say is wow, this thing is awesome

but there are occasinal faint refresh lines going up and down. Dunno if it's suppose to be like that. interference? Or maybe my Video Card just not what it use to be.

i just got a samsung 17" lcd, and the image on it is stunning. i have read that dvi makes a very subtle difference, and ppl on here have said that they can notice it in text especially. i wouldn't upgrade my videocard just for it tho; just wait until you've got other reasons for the upgrade.

another side note.

Where can I go to download a custom calibrated Color Profile? Tomshardware.com provides one with each LCD review but they haven't reviewed the VP171b yet.

you should be able to get one from the viewsonic website in the support section. i got the profile for my viewsonic crt there and it works flawlessly.

What does this do?

like the default colors may make whites look pink or blue. You go into your settings and customize the Red/Greens/Blues to make the colors look right.
