ViewSonic VA520 UltraThin 15" or SAMSUMG 152T

Viewsonic doesn't make monitor, just outsourcing to other manufacturers, they're just a good marketing company.
If the price is not much better than Samsung, why choose Viewsonic?

I currently own the VA520, and I love it. It's got a native resolution of 1024 X 768, pixel response time of 25 ms, typical brightness of 250 cd/m^2, typical contrast ratio of 400:1, and I do not notice any ghosts or artifacts. Mine does not have any dead/hot pixels, and 3D games look awesome on it. 2D quality is supurb, and, in my opinion, is an excellent monitor. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality 15 inch LCD monitor.

Kingofcomputer, who actually makes viewsonic monitors?

IMO, i would get a 15 inch LCD monitor based on the Mitsubishi/ADI AA150XC01 Flat pannel module......its not just the 25ms response time but its ability to reprouduce colour is pretty impressive........
examples of LCD moniter based on the above module are...
TOPCON L2-150
NEC/Mitsubishi 1550M
Eizo Flexscan L365
Eizo Flexscan L375 ....
at 15inch, DVI dosen't make too much of a differance.....
but get DVI if you are goin any bigger..

Thanks for your comments! How much did you pay for it?

Viewsonic is made by Taiwan manufacture (can't remeber the company)

I paid $300 dollars plus another $100 for a 2 year replacement warranty from Best Buy. It retailed for $550, had $150 instant rebate, $100 mail in rebate, and $100 price-drop. It was a great deal.

Just saw this one in person the other day.

Solarism makes the best dang LCD monitors I've ever seen! Totally blows away anything else I've seen, pricey but man they are sweet. Brightness is unparalleled by anyone. 40ms responce time is the only downside but from the reviews and such that I have read it seams to be a generous estimate.

This is second on my list of stuff to get (with a Banias based superslim laptop being the first).

Bestbuy's replacement warranty is a good deal, especially on mobile phone, my friend got every new sprintpcs samsung phone free by just paying one time plus the replacement warranty.

For LCD, a better deal is Planar's from Dell at crazy combined discount offers and free shipping time.
Planar offers 3 years immediate exchange with 2-way shipping paid.
3 years warranty is pretty enough for monitor. You don't really need to pay extra to get to 5 years.

LOL, sucker.

Why? Best Buy warranty's are valid for the entire two years. They are not like CrapUSA, where it is a one time deal. At Best Buy, over the period of two years, I can exhange my monitor an infinite amount of time, as long as it isn't habitual. If a dead/hot pixel were ever to develop, or the screen could somehow break, I could bring it in for a new one, no questions asked.

Edit: Also, the warranties are not added onto the end of the Manufacturers. They are valid from the date of purchase. This way I can go through Best Buy, and if I want to upgrade the monitor for a new one, without going through Viewsonic. Best Buy will also give credit for the original purchase price on the receipt, not the current value.

Are LCds actually made anywhere else? Just because they out-source it doesn't mean it is not a good screen. And just because Samsung makes their own (assuming they do) doesn't make it better.

80% of the LCDs are made in Taiwan and Korea. Dell's Planar for example, is outsourced to Taiwan too. They just stick Dell logo on.

Why not just get a good CRT. They are cheaper, larger, clearer, smoother, brighter, and aren't limited to high quality in a native resolution. The only advantage that LCDs have over CRTs is that they look cool and take up less space. They also consume less power, but unless you are running off a battery it matters not. LCDs are still not viable options in my opinion. However, if you must, Viewsonic usually makes monitors that are reasonably priced. In addition, their quality level is usually on the upper part of the spectrum.

The fact is Samsung and NEC make the best LCD using own panel, only Eizo makes the best LCD using other's panel.

actually,, NEC doesn't make any LCD modules which are smaller than 18 inchs......all the smallers stuff is you find the the 15XX series is Mitsubishi /ADI stuff.......

Text on LCD's is normally sharper than CRT...
As for makers of LCD pannels...

Here are the ones i have heard of...

Samsung
LG/Phillips
Sharp
Mitsubishi/ADI(not the one which makes the LCD monitor)
NEC >18
Hitachi
Fujitsu
........Should be more......

more:
Acer
Chungwa
Hannstar

Tomshardware just came out 15" LCD comparison part III.

This LCD cost more than Samsung, is it worth it?
Oh man, you could get 152T cheaper than VA520, don't tell me you still want VA520.

They're not similar, they're very different.

VA520 - 400:1, 250cd, 120/100 - entry model
152T - 450:1, 350cd, 150/130, with DVI - top model
