hi thanks for reading now my dilemma, I just purchased a used pf790 and I notice two horizontal lines that go from the left side and extends all the way to the right side of the screen. one is located on the upper half of the monitor screen and the other on the lower half of the screen. both seem to be at the same spot about 2 1/2 inches from the top and bottom of the screen. it is a very thin black line that is noticeable with a light backround. my friend said that his sony trinitron monitor is the same thing. is this normal for flatscreen crt monitors??? or is this a defect. its still underwarranty so I can send it back but if this is inherant with all pf790's then theres no point in sending it back. right?? thanks for any help.

A freind has one, it's normal. He says he doesn't even notice the lines anymore.

Those are actually thin wires, and if I remember correctly, are there to give the CRT added structural strength.

I have an Iiyama VM Pro 502 at home and got used to those lines/wires. Later I bought a PF790 and they are the same. I can <gently> smack the side of the monitor, and they reduce (sometimes), but the biggest problem with the PF790 is Viewsonic's drivers SUCK and none of my OSes recognize it out of the box like my Iiyama.

Like somebody said before
these are the wires required by aperature grille, which is the type of flat display that trinitrons as well as a lot of other flat screen monitors use.

There is another method called shadow mask, but it is not nearly as bright or contrasty as AG is. These wires will always be there and it is not a problem. Just try to forget about them!
