Viewsonic P95f+ -- is it good?

Is this monitor any good? I have heard people say that the NEC FE991SB has 'blotchy text' and 'mediocre image quality' so I noticed that Tom's Hardware liked the Viewsonic P95f (I have a heard time finding reviews of monitors). I know there are people on here that have the P95f+ because it was mentioned once. Is this monitor as good as I think it is, or should I keep looking...perhaps at a Viewsonic G90f?

No I am not getting it quite yet.
However, I have inquired about 19in screens on here before and nobody was any help :p so I figure I should just get their opinion and go from there. Usually when I ask more about something, whomever replies is increasingly indecisive or just doesn't know enough about their recommendation. I really wish I could find some of these in a store so I could see them :(.

How about the NEC FE991SB? I heard some reviewer give it low marks, saying it had mediocre image quality and blotchy text...is this true? What i'm really looking for is something that is good for gaming and graphics in general, yet also has crisp text.

There is a difference between the P95f and the P95f+. The P95f+ is a cheaper monitor with lower refresh rates at high resolutions. Personally I own the P95f+, and I think it is great for gaming, but it doesnt have the sharpest text. I dont know if the P95f is much better, but I do know that it supports higher refresh rates, and may be of better quality.

The Viewsonic P95f+ is a pretty decent monitor. I use one.
Just as long as you don't mind the two horizontal lines running accross the screen.

Yes they are and I know what the lines look like on all Aperture Grilles and they are definitely not bad at all. I wish I could find some of these in a store for once!

It's a decent 19 inch I've used a few before in the past. Personally I would get either a Samsung 900NF or Sony G410R both of which are easily better monitors.

Operandi, I will check out the price of a Sony G410R and see if it is feasible for me...though I do love those FD Trinitrons.

PC World has a top 10 ranking for 19" CRT's HERE, maybe this will help you choose. The #3 Dell M992 was being sold by Dell for $199 with free shipping, but I think the deal ends soon, so you would have to act fast!

Yea I have seen that Top 10 list, and it is indeed helpful.
Does anyone know how good the Sony CPD-E440 is?

Is it better than the Samsung 900NF?

Well I should have asked about the P95f instead. Someone said the P95f is probably of higher quality, and it is the P95f that Tom's Hardware thought so highly about:
In most of the resolutions tested, the geometry was nearly always fine. The screen's regularity was exemplary and few adjustments were needed when switching from one resolution to another.

He also goes on to say:
Brightness and contrast were excellent and this really showed in the DVD Video playback and games where the image was always very warm and fine.

But I usually find the P95f+, and not the P95f...is there really that much of a difference between them? I would like to reiterate as well that I really wish I could find at least one of these at a store.

Viewsonic P series are apperture grill and G series are shadowmask. All the P's will have the two lines. I think the P95f+ is a definite best buy. I own a Sony CPD-G420S. They were the same price at the time I bought it (~$350), but now you can get a P95f+ for $250 -- can't beat that.

So, overall, the P95f+ is a good buy then? I have heard bad things about it...but then again, most products have a few bad apples sometimes. The two lines don't bother me as well.

You can find the exact differences between the P95f and the P95f+ on the Viewsonic website. Dont expect to have anywhere near clear text on any refresh rate above 60hz at any resolution above 1024x768 if you get the P95f+. The P95f+ also seem to have a fairly common problem with a blurry area that is just to the right of the Start menu and to the left of the center. I've tried sending mine back for new ones, but with little or no improvement.

That said, if you are getting this primarily for games or movies, it is an excellent choice. It has excellent colors and the refresh rates at high resolutions cant be beat, as long as you arent reading lots of text at those resolutions, its a fine choice. You may have better luck than with it than I did, best of luck to you.

Yes there really that much of a difference. They are based on completely different CRT tubes the only similarity really is they share the same model name. Though I've never used the P95f is supposed to be a much better display in a different class really I'd say it's comparable to the Samsung 900NF and Sony G410R which as I've said before are much nicer then the P95f+.

This leads me to my question...if I can go a little higher in price, I might be able to reach the Sony CPD-E440 or the Samsung 900NF....if I could get one of those, which do you think I should choose? I found the CPD-E440 on Newegg and people gave it high marks that bought it...but people give the 900NF high marks as well.

Thats what I was curious about, the blurriness...so the P95f itself is a good monitor? I'll try finding it on stores online. What I do a lot of is games, movies, but I also do a lot with text.

I've got a Nokia monitor; their monitor division was sold to Viewsonic. Maybe the great quality got passed along with it.:)

Well, The NEC FE991SB-BK is $220 on Dell's site (dropped its price by $24 from last time) and that was my first choice. Does that sound like an okay buy? I saw an NEC monitor at a store, it was a 17" but it used that same SuperBright DiamondTron tube and it looked great. Sound okay?
